When Jamie first moved to Vancouver, he had not had a lot of exposure to other cultures other than the white one he grew up in. One of his first memories was two police officers standing over an old drunk native dude. One was resting his foot on the guy like he was a foot stool. Jamie approached them and suggested they let him stand up and they made it clear he would be joining him if he didn’t back off.
After that Jamie saw more and more of the same sort of thing.
He remembers going to see the Canucks play and when they played the anthem he did not stand up. People around him were upset and he tried to explain….
Jamie wrote this song years later in 2002.

We cheated the Mi’kmaq and killed off the Beothuck
